Top 5 lessons from fashion bloggers

  • Yes, yes, they might be retarded, self-centered, superficial and frustrated excuses fur models. But the rise of fashion bloggers tells us a lot about how consumer habits are changing and the different marketing techniques that will work in the near future.

    1. Stunning photography

Even if some of these girls get boyfriends just to have someone to follow them around and take pictures of them, we admit that the most successful bloggers have impeccable photography. They have fancy DSLR cameras, they plan their shootings, often traveling to exotic destinations showcasing key aspects of the city they are in and the photos bring the best of the subjects, in a depiction of what we could consider a modern day muse.

    1. They have created loyal followers
Part of the surge of the fashion blog as a commercial asset (other than the first three letters of that word) stem from the fact that the readers are paying attention. Affiliate marketing adores fashion bloggers because they started out just talking about what they liked, gaining credibility as style icons to an audience that was ready to go buy whatever they wore. Of course now things have changed and everybody is trying to sell you things regardless of whether they like it or not, but you have to give it to these women for creating such long-lasting loyal readers, which is not an easy thing to do.
    1. Staying “relevant”

This is also part of what I hate about fashion bloggers and it is that they are all wearing the same thing, but the aspect I want to highlight is that they do stay on top of the latest collection from the designers they follow and post about it shortly after they come out. Being an early adopter of a trend and specializing in your topic, as trivial as it can be, is very important to deliver current content that people want to read.

    1. Understanding the power of social media.

Some of these people have more followers on Instagram than major global brands or movie stars. Instagram is particularly important due to the timing of its boom and the nature of the platform, focused on photos. Social networks have helped spread the word on these blogs and get a constant stream of links and low cost clicks. Without such a large fan base, it would be very hard to get that much traffic to their website without paid advertising, the way most companies have to do it.

    1. Knowing that they don’t need to waste time writing

I guess at some point these bloggers used to actually write something about their lives, fashion inspiration or the place they were visiting, but oh, those were the days. Now you are lucky of you get five lines of text, in addition to the list of affiliate links where you can get the overpriced garments you just saw. This is only a sign of how we are consuming information: the shorter the better, I just want to see your five “outfit of the day” #ootd photos and get out of there. And then come in again. And out again. The good old in-out.
