Fall Capsule Wardrobe

A truly functional capsule wardrobe is the holy grail of every fashionista. Or any woman. It can seem impossible, though, to escape from the seasonal allure of new and exciting new coats, boots and bags that we tell ourselves we need every new shopping cycle (summer, back to school, fall, holidays, or as some people call it: life). I titled this “Fall Capsule Wardrobe” but most of these pieces are good all year long. The secret to a legitimate capsule wardrobe: make it your own. Yes, some super basic pieces would work for most people, but it is that special touch that makes it all come together: a statement coat, a pattern jacket, an oversize belt and your own personal season must haves are what make this concept possible at all.

For me, high heels are always a must and this season bodysuits are everything. I don’t renew my wardrobe every season, but rather, try to add a couple investment pieces that nicely compliment my style and if I can find it ethically made, even better. When it comes to clothes you’ll wear season after season, like a trench coat of a pair of boots, high-quality is the way to go.

My favorite finds in this list: the ASOS leather pats, the Loefler Randall boots, the Everlane Trench and that PP upcycled leather skirt.

Fall Capsule Wardrobe 2015

1. Amour Vert striped long sleeve shirt. An absolute classic, this one comes with the high neck, which I’m really liking this season. Whoever came up with the expression “turtle-neck”, though, you could’ve made it sound less boring. More about Amour Vert.

2. Alternative Apparel Micro Mesh Tank Top. Great for layering, the transparency allows you to wear it with a bra or a tank top. One of my favorite finds of this list. Alternative Apparel only uses factories under the Fair Labor Association code. More here.

3. Nasty Gal ribbed body suit. My latest obsession.  This one has a sweater texture and has the perfect color to layer with everything. Why did I pick Nasty Gal, kind of a fast fashion retailer? Unlike many of their cheap clothes, which are made of synthetic fibers, this one is made of cotton, also, the price is decent compared to others I’ve seen recently, like those by Reformation. Also, I only buy these type of clothes if I know I’m really going to wear them a lot.

4. Eileen Fisher skinny tank. 100% organic cotton.

5. Reformation faux vintage white tee. Made with Tencel in Los Angeles, Tencel is an eco-friendly fabric. If you have a REAL vintage white tee, even better, it’s all about finding the right fit for you.

6. Free People white layering long sleeve top .

7. ASOS high neck tunic top

8. MAY. black mini dress. 100% silk.

9. Sincerely Jules Wild Thingtee, from SU2C x Revolve collection: 30% of all proceeds from this product will go to benefit the Stand Up To Cancer Foundation. I liked this one, but you can use your favorite metal band or obscure pop culture t-shirt.

10. Which We Want black bodysuit.  Everything this brand makes is great. Find more here.

11. Everlane classic trench. Don’t you just love Everlane? They always offer quality and transparent information about their supply chain. This one is 100% cotton and was made in Suzhou.

12. Lovers+Friends pinstripe jacket. Part of SU@C x Revolve.

13. ASOS linen blazer. An absolute every season must have.

14.  Diesel high-heel booties.

15. Loeffler Randall leather boots.

16. VEJA white sneakers. VEJA shoes are made with innovative techniques to reduce their environmental impact. Made in Brazil from vegetable tanned leather, organic cotton and wild rubber from the Amazon. More about The Acey, Veja’s retailer.

17. Everlane classic flat booties.

18. Beaumont Organic slouchy beanie. Made from 70% acrylic and 30% mohair, crafted ethically in Portugal.

19. Topshop black lace bra. Just another pretty little thing. Not a ton of information available about the product, but Topshop is a reliable shopping destination in terms of quality/price ration. Also, it is hard to find lace lingerie that is not made with synthetic fabrics. Again, giving it a good use is what matters.

20. Everlane tote.

21. Soko choker necklace. Because chokers are the thing. Soko jewelry is ethically made and sourced.

22. PP upcycled leather mini skirt.

23. Ralph Lauren black leggings with leather accents.

24. ASOS skinny leather trousers.

25. The Unity Closet silk scarf in a french twist

26. Nasty Gal double-buckle leather belt. In love with random belts, this one really caught my eye.

27. Your favorite Levi’s. Super skinny and mid to high-waisted for me! If you need an upgrade, Zappos is the place to go, with free shipping and free returns. Heart.

28. Everlane black flats. I had to smash these ones in there because… flats! 100% Italian leather and made in Italy.
