Non-Dysphoria

Not only is fall my favorite time of the year, but I have many exciting changes coming up soon AND I am listening to A Perfect Circle as I write this. It's hard to think life could get any better than this.

The notions of a perfect life or a dream job are things I never focused too much on. They are fluid concepts that change constantly, the same way we change. I think people look outside of themselves to build these concepts of long-term happiness and satisfaction with one self. Maybe I’m overly introspective or just a loner, but other people’s opinions have never been more important than my own when it comes to big picture life decisions (or music, or movies, or literature). I’m not sure that pursuing the perfect life or chasing a very specific objective (unless you are Elon Musk) is the best way to do life (and even Elon Musk had to pursue other ventures before committing to the interplanetary species thing).

If I had to give an alien that just arrived to Earth advice on how to do life, I would say the biggest thing is to seize every opportunity you are given and make the most of them, make your disadvantages your biggest advantages and be prepared for when the right opportunity comes around. Oh, and live in America, for sure. California, if you can.

I came to the U.S. in 2013 and I had to re-invent myself professionally, make new friends and build a new kind of life. Things weren’t always easy or fun, but today I know all those moments were just training me for the future and I am grateful for every failure. If anything, I wish I had failed more. Nowadays, I have to recap constantly how was it that I got here and how I have been so ridiculously lucky, to put it all into perspective.

What I’m trying to say is: don’t follow your dreams, follow your effort and focus on those things you are willing to work the hardest at. This is borrowed from Mark Cuban and it’s one of those phrases that you hear over and over, it stays in your head and one day you realize you might have changed your behavior based on it. Do that and the pumpkins will follow.

In other news, I might be getting my first pair of Manolo Blahnik shoes. YAY.
