I get a lot of requests from new brands of sustainable and ethical fashion. Many times, I have to turn them down because I simply do not believe in the product or very bluntly put, I just don’t like it. When I found Organic Basics, I was skeptical, after all, sustainable fashion basics are popping up everywhere, right? Boy, was I wrong.
More than sustainable underwear
The reality is that, when it comes to undergarments, I hadn’t really tried to find a sustainable alternative, because it is hard enough already to find nicely fitting underwear to ask for sustainability on top of that. When I tried Organic Basics, it was like a silent prayer had been answered. The fabric is so soft and delicate, but it fits well at the same time. I was in the first stages of breastfeeding when I first tried on the bralette TENCEL Lite Bralette, so I needed something extra soft and silky (If you’ve ever had sore nipples, you know what I mean). It felt like such a treat compared to the bulky nursing bras I had been wearing, so it became my go-to.
TENCEL is the holy grail of sustainable fabrics, so it is no surprise that the products feel so smoothly luxurious, but the company goes beyond the materials. They offer carbon-neutral shipping from Denmark, every garment is ethically made in certified factories and they are 100% cruelty-free. The packaging is eco-friendly and minimalist, making the overall shopping experience consistent with the company’s ethos and commitment to sustainability. You can view their fabrics and when you purchase something, you know where it was made. My cute bralette, for example, was made in Portugal.
I want to say they are the Everlane of undergarments, so I will. They also have t-shirts and yoga pants, so they are not exclusively undergarments.
