The Day High Heel: somewhere between work deadlines and Halloween candy shopping (no, it’s not too early), I failed to notice that the ethical fashion gods and the short girl gnomes had confabulated to fix the thing that bothered me about this shoe. The Everlane day heel is meant to be comfortable and dressy, worn all year round and provide versatility to the modern busy woman, but I just can’t deal with low heels. What is the point? If you’re wearing heels, do it right. Anything below 4 inches just isn’t worth it to me. What’s next? Showing up to work wearing a towel on your hair and flip-flops?
But miracles do happen.
The day high heel fixes this issue and, although the heel is only 2.75″, it is a massive improvement with respect to its predecessor. If you’re constantly thinking: “I just wish the heel was higher” and, “I can never reach the top shelf cookies”, this shoe is for you.
Life is too short for low heels and bad jobs. That’s why I’m getting these and quitting my job. Plot twist, I know. I had made the decision a couple of weeks ago and my resignation letter actually had a date of September 14th, but there was just too much work to do, so I’m staying until the end of the month (aka. this week). I’m really happy and I think it’s the right move. I have an interview today and I’m excited to take a break after a full year of being constantly busy and not having the time to travel, blog or do anything fun, really. My life had become work and that would be fine if I loved my job, but that’s not the case.
But back to what really matters: shoes. At times, I struggle to find the balance between my desires to shop for higher quality shoes and pay more for ethically made everything, and my competing desire to have more variety and follow very specific shoe trends. While I don’t generally follow trends, shoes are my guilty pleasure, so I’ve probably bought more shoes than anything else this past year, namely, a pair of white kitten heel boots from asos, a new pair of Nike Airs and mules in 2 different colors. But, when I think about my next job as an advertising executive, this shoe fits the part more than some of my other heels.
The day high heel says: “I’m a badass, but I care about fashion too, I’m also practical and don’t want to spend a ton of time finding shoes that go with everything, so I’ll take 2 pairs (white and black)“.
